The third edition of VOLUMES – Independent Art Publishing Fair – returns on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th of November at “Gessnerallee“ in Zürich. The fair will present a fine selection of local and international artists and art books, zines and magazines. This hybrid event will also feature a symposium, a range of performances, exhibitions and workshops.
VOLUMES is the only fair for independent art publishing in Zürich. This year’s edition takes place at Gessnerallee Zürich, a venue for the production and presentation of works in the performing arts in the heart of the city. The „Nordflügel“ of Gessnerallee will host the stands of the publishers and a big workshop table, while in “Stall 6“ a programme of performances will take place. Furthermore on Friday night austropop musician Voodoo Jürgens will give a free concert.
For the first time this year, there will be an informal one day symposium: “Publishing as Resistance“, curated by special guest Damian Christinger. This symposium will showcase lectures, presentations and performances by invited specialists and players of the independent publishing scene. Covering different aspects of the historical and current examples of publication as a form of resistance, the event will end with a round table, where the fair’s exhibitors and the general public will be invited to take part.
The book exhibition will present two different VOLUMES collections. The first one is the classic “International Open Call”, for which zinesters and artists from all around the world send one publication to VOLUMES. The result acts as a snapshot of the current international scene. The second one, “Zürich Archive” is a new compilation of publications, art books and zines which are connected to the city and offer an insight into different relations and experiences within the location.
VOLUMES is a non-profit organisation which was funded in Zürich in 2013 by Anne-Laure Franchette, Patrizia Mazzei and Gloria Wismer with the aim to support the DIY-facet of publishing and introduce it to a larger audience. The annual book fair is dedicated to showcase local and international independent publishers and self-editing artists. Publications offer an infinite variety of content and are a great medium for artists to showcase their work and present it to a wider public. The fair is the perfect platform for the producers to get in direct contact with the audience.
We can’t wait! See you there 😉
